Art Therapist


Responsibilities


  • Use art as a therapy tool to help patients express their emotions, heal from trauma, and improve mental health

  • Have conversations and create art with patients to determine their emotional, cognitive, and social needs

  • Plan and lead therapy sessions for their patients.

  • Maintain clinical records and work with other healthcare or education professionals

  • Follow ethical standards and maintain client confidentiality


Required Credentials:

  • A Master’s degree in Art Therapy

  • Supervised clinical hours

  • Gaining your state's license or certification

  • Becoming board certified through the Art Therapy Credentials Board (not always required, but prefered)

  • Having a background in psychology and visual arts
