Editorial makeup artists are responsible for creating bold, artistic make up looks that are to be seen in editorial content such as magazine spreads, fashion shoots, advertisements, music videos, and other visual media. Although there are no formal requirements, most editorial makeup artists positions require a high school diploma and makeup artistry education.


A day in the life...

  • Get to the set and prepare your station

  • Discuss/plan the look with the photographer and team

    • Keep in mind the talent's skin type, allergies, and past negative experiences

  • Apply makeup!


Some degrees related to this job include Aesthetics and Skincare, Cosmetology, Fine Arts, Makeup Artistry Degrees. However, there aren't any required certifications for this career. Acclaimed make-up schools include the Michael Vincent Academy, Paul Mitchell School, Make-up Designory (MUD), and Cosmix Makeup School.
